Thanks Darcy, . My main trouble is with the cotton fabric. I want to dye some to use in a quilt but so far it just isn't beautiful. I'll try the iron mordant. Do you think using an iron pot would help?

Hi everyone, Does anyone here have any experience with spinning dog fur? My beautiful dog Daisy has been shedding mountains of fluff and I've spun a bit just for fun. Of course, this was fur brushed out of her coat just after a bath!

Hi friends, I've been dyeing with fresh walnuts this week. On wool the color is rich and deep, on silk it's nice too, but it seems no matter how long cotton is left in the brew, the color is pretty weak- like paper bag brown. All fibers were premo...

kimberly baxter packwood replied to laura's discussion 'Batik' in the group Batik
Actually it all depends on the fabrics you are using, silk for instance would require less heat, than say cotton especially if you are using the cold dye method and not an immersion bath. Batik using natural dyes was common place in the east long ...

hi there :)

re: your lichen question, i didn't use any mordant or know what the heck i was doing. i was dyeing cotton, and got a very very pale shade... but the wool yarn i used to hold the cotton skein together turned a beautiful rusty golden yellow. heh heh :)

Really interesting pattern. Is this dyed before or after weaving?

Thanx Laura. The draw strings are woven into the fabric and then pulled when it is off the loom. Then it is dyed. It's called loom controlled shibori.

I love your milkweed yarn! That's kewl. 8-]
