Welcome Johoanna! As for doghair ...I have 3 sheperds (dutch) and I mix their coats throug other wool but it doesn't smell. I once tried Newfoundland hair and indeed that smells not nice.

Hi all, I've been spinning for many years on and off. My mother taught me to spin when I was 16. I finally now have my own wheel and several drop spindles. I spin mostly merino fleece and alpaca fleece. I hope to post some pics in the coming weeks.
Blessings
Johoanna

Thanks for the warning! Both of these photos are so beautiful that I'm inspired to collect more fur and make some stinky mittens1

One of the advantages of being a dog groomer is an abundance of and many types of pet fur to spin. Yes the undercoat can be spun with no problem. I also mixes well with other fibers. Spun alone it may be too warm for sweaters etc. And yes, depending on the breed, it can hang on to doggie odors.

I spun the hair of the dog my mum owns (with alpaca and silk). It never stopped smelling of dog, not even after washing and rinsing umphteen times. Some breeds have a strong smell and it is hard to get rid off, so I hope yours isn't one of them (my mum has a Newfoundland mix). I heard Samojeed makes very nice spinning material

Hi everyone,
Does anyone here have any experience with spinning dog fur? My beautiful dog Daisy has been shedding mountains of fluff and I've spun a bit just for fun. Of course, this was fur brushed out of her coat just after a bath!
