You don't need to mordant the fabric. The reason I scour it first is very often, if you are not using PFD fabrics, there are treatments/coatings on the surface of the fabric and these could flake or crock off over time.

The clay binds with the soy milk, therefore you do not need anyother mordants etc., and sits on the surface of the fabrics/fibers.

What is clay dyeing? after scouring the fabric does it have to be mordanted before clay dyeing?

I use soy milk as my binder. Yes you can paint it onto any fabric/fiber it will even stain polyester fabrics though not nearly as vividly or intensely as silk fabrics.

clay dyeing can be done on any fabric-cotton ,silk?do we have to bind with tree extrct or natural gum
