Welcome Arlene! Can't wait to see what you've done with the rust, you'll have to keep us updated on your indigo I'm not sure how well it grows in Florida but I'm thinking it might get huge with all of the humidity there.

Kimberly

Thanks for the welcome Kimberly

I wish I would have started exploring this media a couple of years ago when I lived on five acres. Unfortunately I will have to grow the indigo in pots. But I am hoping, because of the warm weather I will still be able to get enough plant matter to experiment.

Hi I am Arlene. I just found Kimberly's blog and after reading it for a bit I found my way here. I'm pretty new to natural dyes. Back in 2000 I started making handmade paper and used flowers and plant fibers to color the paper. Recently I started playing around dyeing fabric and cheese cloth to use in my mixed media art.

In the past month I have been experimenting using the solar dyeing method with just a couple of different plants that grow in my yard and onion skins. Oh I forgot I used onion skins with the handmade paper also. I've also used coffee and tea. I live in Florida so I should be able to solar dye for most of the year.

I've also started some indigo seeds and can't wait to be able to experiment dyeing with the plants.

I have also rolled a few rusty things up in muslin and paper so I guess I have done a little rust dyeing also. I am looking forward to being here. I'm very excited to have found my way here!

Hi everyone,
I am Lizet and live in Australia in Far North Queensland. I joined this network because I'd love to connect with other dyers and learn from each other.
I have been doing a lot of immersion dyeing with natural dyes for years now. I am experimenting with the earth pigments, applied with soy milk, rust dyeing and compost dyeing. I am getting ready to use the screen printing with gum tragacanth for a project that I am working on. This is something new for me and I am quite excited.
I would love to learn more about rust and clay dyeing.
I think there will always something new to learn.

Welcome Lizet!

Ask away on what you don't know, and do post pics of what you've done in the past. Can't wait to see your screenprinting samples!

Hello,
I joined a while ago, but haven't really had much time to check this site out. I hope to participate more starting next mushroom season. I've been dyeing with plants/lichens/mushrooms for 6 or 7 years. My wife and I really got into mushroom dyeing in a big way when we lived on Vancouver Island...got inspired by Miriam Rice's book and have been experimenting ever since. Both my wife and I have given workshops on dyeing, and mushroom dyeing in specific and hope to do more.

I think someone on this site said that when mushroom season comes, she forgets about everything else...i can totally relate. It's an all-consuming hobby, that's for sure. Anyway, we will probably be doing some more dyeing over the winter...so, I'll post some photos of our work when I have a chance! Thanks for setting up this ning and I look forward to participating,
Keith

Hi,
My name is Aukje.
Today I wandered through the internet garden and found this place where people share their experiences with natural dyeing. Lately it seems that every path I choose ends up in the herb garden, either for my study fytotherapy or my clothing designs. So I thought it might be good if I just sat down for a while and listen, participate and then later on, share my experiences.
I’m quite new at this, this natural dye process. But my love for history, Vikings, Celts and nature provides me with a little bit knowledge about the use of herbs in ancient times.

The main page looks great! It’s like wandering in virtual garden rooms.
You will find me here, or there… I love to listen and get to know you ;)
